Oregon Tech Sprints Past Southern Oregon
KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Oregon Tech started the game on a 16-4 run, held rival Southern Oregon to just 14 first half points and methodically pulled away in the second half, as the Owls secured a 62-36 victory in Cascade Conference women’s basketball action tonight at Danny Miles Court.
Oregon Tech moved to 20-6 overall and 9-5 in CCC play, while SOU fell to 13-12 on the season and 4-10 in the conference standings.
Tech held an 8-4 edge, before A Karissa Dixon trey put the Owls up 11-4. Tech would move up 16-4 before SOU’s Josi McDermott answered with a short jumper to make it 16-6 with 6:49 remaining in the opening period.
Dixon would hit another from long distance, at the two minute mark, giving Tech a 17 point advantage, the largest lead of the half for the Owls, before settling for a 29-14 lead at intermission.
Seven straight points sent the Owls to a 36-14 advantage to open up the second period, before SOU answered with a triple from RaTanya Newsome to close the gap to 36-17.
The rally didn’t last long, as the home team responded with a 14-5 run to put the Owls up 28. Another Dixon basket from long range with 5:25 to play gave the Owls a 33 point lead, their largest of the game, before cruising to a 62-36 win.
Karissa Dixon led all scorers with a game-high 21 points on 8-of-10 from the field, to go with five rebounds and a pair of assists. Aundrea Albright was 7-for-11 from the field for 16 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Jazzy McDaniel grabbed a game-high nine boards and scored six points, while Morgan Hofman handed out five assists in the win.
RaTanya Newsome led SOU with 13 points, followed by Josi McDermott with six. Nalani Hernandez grabbed a team-high eight boards in the loss for the Raiders.
Tech held SOU to 24% shooting on the night, while connecting on 44.6% (25-for-56). The Owls outrebounded their opponent 48-to29, including 18 from the offensive end.
Oregon Tech will host Northwest University Friday and Evergreen State Saturday in the last regular season home games of the year.
