SIOUX CITY, Iowa – In the second round of the 2012 State Farm-NAIA Division II National Tournament, Corban's No. 10-ranked women's basketball team had its season come to an end in a 73-57 loss to No. 7-ranked Grand View Friday inside the Tyson Event Center.

With tonight's result, Corban closes out the 2011-12 season with an overall record of 24-8. Meanwhile, Grand View improves to 30-5 overall and will take on the NAIA's No. 2-ranked Concordia-Nebraska in the quarterfinals tomorrow – Saturday, March 11th – beginning at 8:00 p.m.

After a 90-minute delay due to earlier games going longer than scheduled, Corban took the floor and was led offensively by junior Emily Tsugawa with 16 points on 6-for-12 shooting from the field to go along with six rebounds and a game-high six assists. Junior Tess Bennett added 12 points, while freshman Tara Vanweerdhuizen registered her 17th double-double of the season with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Grand View would open the game on a 7-2 run over the first two minutes before Corban used a 10-1 over a span of two minutes to take a four-point lead (12-8) on a Vanweerdhuizen bucket in the paint with 16:02 on the clock. Grand View would get to within a single point (12-11) before Corban pushed its lead back to four points (17-13) on a Bennett jumper with 13:08 remaining. Over the next nine-plus minutes, Grand View would use a 21-3 run en route to securing a 14-point lead (34-20) on a Karissa Shindelar basket with 4:25 left. Over the final four-plus minutes, Corban would get to within three points (36-33) thanks to a 13-2 run that ended with a bucket in the paint by freshman Danielle Vanderstoel with exactly one minute left. Two free throws by GVU's Morgan Hamner with one second left would give the Vikings a five-point advantage (38-33) at halftime.

The second half would begin with Corban using a 12-9 run to pull within two points (47-45) thanks to a Tsugawa three-pointer with 11:29 on the clock. Over the next 90 seconds, Grand View would use a 11-2 run to grab an 11-point lead (58-47) on a two-pointer by Hamner with just under nine minutes left. Corban would get to within five points (60-55) on a Vanweerdhuizen second-chance basket with just over six minutes remaining. Unfortunately, Grand View's offense was too much for the Warriors as the Vikings closed the game on a 13-2 run en route to securing the 16-point win (73-57).

GVU's Jennifer Jorgenson led all players with game-high totals of 33 points and 15 rebounds, while Hamner was the only other Viking to score in double figures with 18 points to go along with Abby Mendlik's team-high five assists.

As a team, Corban combined to shoot 23-for-64 (35.9%) from the field to go along with a 4-for-18 (22.2%) showing from beyond the three-point line and a 7-for-13 (53.8%) performance at the free throw line. On the other hand, Grand View was 25-for-61 (41.0%) from the field, 1-for-10 (10.0%) from long distance, and 22-for-28 (78.6%) at the charity stripe.

This season was highlighted by Corban capturing its second straight Cascade Collegiate Conference regular season title en route to tallying its first 20-win season since 2006-07. Individually, senior Katie Steigleman closed out her record-breaking career as the all-time leading scorer in program history with 1,964 points and Vanweerdhuizen set a single-season blocked shots record with 123 rejections in her first collegiate campaign.
