BOX SCORE - Concordia vs. Menlo

ATHERON, Calif.—Behind a four-hit complete-game performance from Derek Rodriguez, Menlo College defeated Concordia 8-1 to even the four-game weekend series against the Cavaliers on Sunday.
With the win, Menlo improved to 7-17 overall and 4-8 in NAIA West Region play. Concordia fell to 11-8 overall and 5-3 in conference action. Concordia will next take the field on Tuesday when it steps out of the conference schedule to play a single contest against St. Martins with a 6 p.m. start at Hilken Community Stadium.
The Cavs will go onto host Corban University for a four-game set at Hilken on March 16-18.
Rodriguez got all the help he would need in the first inning as the Oaks plated a pair of runners behind back-to-back one-out hits. Shortstop James Threw opened up the attack with a single to left and immediately found his way home with a triple to left from Collin Forgey. Forgey quickly completed the journey home on a groundout to second off the bat of Will Pierce.
Menlo added three runs on three hits in the third and utilized several fielding errors by the Cavs to generate a single score in the fifth and two more in the sixth for their final count.
Jimmy Sanchez scored the lone CU run in the sixth after being hit by a Rodriguez pitch. Sanchez moved to third on a single from shortstop Jordan Keeker and advanced home on a sacrifice fly by Jared Young.
Menlo went on to outhit the Cavs 9 to 4 with Rodriguez striking out five and walking just one batter. Larsen Kohler took the loss after allowing six runs, four of which were earned, in four innings of work. Young came in to pitch the final 11 outs and was charged with two unearned runs.
Threw led all batters with a 3 for 4 effort which resulted in three runs scored for the Oaks.
Sean Myrom joined Keeker, Sanchez and Keeker as the only Cavs to register hits, all of which were singles. Concordia finished with five errors compared to just one for the home side.
