LA GRANDE, Ore. – The Eastern Oregon University track and field teams opened their outdoor seasons Friday with the EOU Blue and Gold Meet.

The Mountaineers hit 23 Cascade Collegiate Conference championship qualifying marks in the first meet of the season, two NAIA championship provisional-qualifying marks and an automatic-qualifying mark.

In her first collegiate meet, Jamie Murchison won the women’s javelin with a top throw of 135 feet, 5.19 inches. The mark qualifies the freshman for the NAIA Championships and is currently the top mark in the NAIA.

Trevor Barrett hit an NAIA provisional mark in the men’s javelin. His top throw was 188 feet, 6.99 inches. Barrett’s mark is currently second in the NAIA. He also had a conference championship qualifying mark in the discus.

Other CCC Championship qualifying marks from Friday were: Kadie Booth in the 200 meters, Alma Garcilazo in the 1,500 meters, Maddison Stapleton and Sarah Beck in the pole vault, and Allison Rodgers in the long jump.

On the men’s side, Tyler Watson in the 200 meters, Chris Wilson in the 400-meter hurdles, Travis Simpson, Asa Miller and Brandon Powell all in the high jump, John Ellingson in the pole vault, Simpson in the triple jump, Jake Wilcox and Carson Hendryx in the shot put, Wilcox, Hendryx and Tyler Bruck all in the discus, and Wilcox, Hendryx, Bruck and Max Van Fossen in the hammer throw.
