Oregon Tech Men Finish atop Men’s Poll
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Cascade Collegiate Conference has a combined total of eight teams representing the conference in the final NAIA Div. 2 women’s and men’s basketball Top 25 polls released Monday.
The Oregon Tech men finished first in the poll after winning the national title. The Owls defeated Northwood (Fla.) in the national championship game Tuesday, 63-46. OIT won its third national title, all under head coach Danny Miles, and tied Bethel (Ind.) for most national titles in NAIA Div. 2. Tech won five of its school-record 34 victories during the national tournament at College of the Ozarks in Point Lookout, Mo.
Northwest (29-5) went from No. 8 to No. 7 after finishing its season in the national quarterfinals. WPC (24-9) moved up two spots to No. 14 following its second round finish. Eastern Oregon (19-11) ended its season at its fifth straight national tournament and was one spot shy of the top 25 with 68 votes.
In the women’s poll, Eastern Oregon was ranked No. 11 in the poll. The Mountaineers (25-9) ended the season in the national quarterfinals, the deepest an EOU women's basketball team has ever made it in the national tournament. Eastern climbed to a program-high No. 8 ranking this season.
Eastern Oregon was joined by national tournament qualifiers, Corban and College of Idaho, in the top 25. Corban (24-8) went from No. 10 to No. 13, and C of I dropped six spots to No. 22. Warner Pacific (20-11) received six votes.
