CAMAS, Wash.—With play suspended in the second round after a late start due to snow, the Corban men’s golf team leads a five-team CCC contingent after round one at the Cavalier Classic on Monday. 

The University of Victoria leads the classic overall after shooting a 6-over par 294 in the first round, while Corban edged Simon Fraser and Concordia for second at 304. Simon Fraser finished just one stroke back of the Warriors at 305, with Concordia one back from them at 306. 

After that, The College of Idaho sits six back from Concordia at 312, Arizona Christian ranks sixth at 315, the Concordia ‘B’ team ranks seventh at 318, Northwest Christian ranks eighth at 334 and Warner Pacific ranks ninth at 359. 

Individually, Carson Kallis of the University of Victoria leads the tournament after Monday, having shot the lone sub-par round off the day with a 3-under par 69. Meanwhile, Darren Hupfer, Kallis’ teammate for the University of Victoria, finished second with an even-par 72. 

Behind Kallis and Hupfer, a trio of CCC golfers tied for third, as Jed Dalton and Jesse Heinly of Concordia and Joey Duwe of Corban all shot a 1-over par 73. In addition, Chris Dudley gave the Warriors its second top 10 finisher, tying for ninth at 75. At the same time, Austen Giesie and Tyler Thurston gave The College of Idaho two golfers in the top ten, as Giesie finished tied for sixth at 74, while Thurston tied for ninth at 75. 

Elsewhere in the CCC, Andrew Johnson led Warner Pacific with a 5-over par 77 to tie for 14th, while Calvin Green and Brett McColl led Northwest Christian with a pair of 81’s to tie for 26th.

The tournament will conclude tomorrow when the players resume their respective second rounds with approximately five holes to go at 8 a.m. on Tuesday. The players will then attempt to squeeze in a third and final round later on Tuesday.

The Cavalier Classic represents the third of five CCC tournaments this season and the first of the spring. Concordia leads the men’s race by 48 strokes over Corban after two tournaments in the fall, while The College of Idaho sits 12 back of Corban in third. Besides them, Warner Pacific currently ranks fourth in the conference, with Northwest Christian in fifth.
