COMPLETE RESULTS
CAMAS, Wash.—Despite snow in the morning and wet conditions in the afternoon, the Concordia women’s golf team recorded a strong first round of the Cavalier Classic on Monday, taking a 14-stroke lead into Tuesday.
The players attempted to finish the second on Monday, but play was suspended with approximately five holes to go. Second round play will resume tomorrow at 8 a.m., while the players will then tack on the third and final round later on Tuesday.
Concordia led all teams with a 318 after the first round on Monday, well ahead of second-place University of Victoria at 332. Concordia also opened up a 26-stroke lead over the next CCC school at the tournament, as The College of Idaho finished third after day one with a 344.
Behind them, Warner Pacific shot a 366 for fourth, Simon Fraser shot a 372 for fifth and Corban shot a 406 to place sixth. Northwest Christian brought three golfers, but did not fill out a team score.
Individually, Sara Molyneux led the Cavs’ strong start Monday, shooting a 3-over par 75 to lead the tournament after round one. Molyneux was not alone, however, as three other Concordia golfers finished in the top ten. Holly Speer tied for fourth with an 80 in the first round, while Madison Alamillo finished seventh with an 81 and Sunny Powers tied for eighth with an 82. Mary-Grace Jenks also competed for Concordia, finishing just off the pace with an 86 to tie for 12th.
Elsewhere in the CCC, Northwest Christian’s Sarah Crofcheck finished just one stroke off of Molyneux, shooting a 4-over par 76 to come in second. In addition, Haley Partridge tied for fourth with an 80 in the first round, while Emma Mitchem finished 11th with an 85 for NCU.
Trish Gibbens led The College of Idaho, finishing tied for fourth with Speer and Partridge at 80. Baylee Borchers finished as the Yotes’ second golfer on Monday, tying for 12th with an 86.
Besides them, Charli Bolt led Warner Pacific with an 89 to tie for 17th, while Morgan McComish led Corban with a 96 to tie for 26th.
The Cavalier Classic represents the third of five conference tournaments this season and the first of the spring. Concordia leads The College of Idaho by 17 strokes in the women’s race after the two tournaments in the fall.
