CAMAS, Wash.—The University of Victoria men’s golf team ran away with the Cavalier Classic on Tuesday, posting a remarkable 7-under par 857 (294-287-276) to win the team race, while the Concordai men placed first among CCC teams and second overall.

Victoria’s top three golfers went 1-2-3 at the tournament to lead the team to its impressive victory. Carson Kallis led the tournament from start to finish, taking home the individual title with an 8-under par 208 (69-71-68). Darren Hupfer, meanwhile, finished second to Kallis after every round, though he did shoot the low round of the tournament with a 67 on Tuesday. Overall Hupfer finished with a 6-under par 210 (72-71-67), while Victoria’s Dylan Cann placed third with an even par 216 (74-73-69).

However, with Victoria way out in front, the play for second place provided the biggest drama of the tournament. Corban entered the final round on Tuesday as the No. 2 team, holding a two-stroke lead over Concordia. The Cavaliers, though, shot a sparkling 295 final round to leapfrog Corban for second at 904 (306-303-295). Simon Fraser also jumped Corban in the final round, as SFU finished third with a total of 916 (305-309-302). Finally, Corban came in fourth at 919 (304-303-312).

Behind the top four, The College of Idaho finished 19-strokes back of Corban at 938 (312-311-315), Arizona Christian placed sixth at 954 (315-328-311), the Concordia ‘B’ team placed seventh at 963 (318-322-323), Northwest Christian placed eighth at 964 (334-317-313) and Warner Pacific placed ninth at 1061 (359-352-350).

Concordia’s strong final round also helped them win their third CCC tournament of the season in as many tries. After Tuesday, the Concordia men now stand 65 strokes up on Corban and 94 strokes up on The College of Idaho in the men’s team race.

Jesse Heinly and Jed Dalton led the Cavs and all CCC golfers at the classic with fourth and fifth place finishes, respectively. However, Jess Wingett led the Cavs in their final round comeback, as the Cavs’ No. 5 golfer shot a 2-under par 70 in the final round, making him the only golfer not from Victoria to shoot below par in the tournament. In addition, Concordia flashed its depth, as all five CU golfers finished in the 70s in the final round, while Heinly (73-73-73—219), Dalton (73-73-76—222) and Wingett (79-79-70—228) all placed in the top ten overall.

Besides those three, Jared Moe tied for 22nd at 235 (81-78-76), with Tanner Maahs 31st at 242 (81-82-79).

Elsewhere in the CCC, Chris Dudley led Corban after placing tied for seventh at 224 (75-73-76), while teammate Jared Lambert tied for 15th at 230 (79-74-77). Kyle Delorey (80-73-75—228), Austen Giesie (74-76-78—228) and Tyler Thurston (75-76-77—228) all tied for 10th to lead The College of Idaho.

Finally, Andrew Johnson tied for 15th at 230 (79-74-77) to lead Warner Pacific, while Tyler Falk tied for 25th at 238 (85-78-75) to lead Northwest Christian.

The College of Idaho wil host the next CCC tournament as The College of Idaho Invitational will take place April 9-10 in Wilder, Idaho. The tournament will represent the fourth CCC tournament of the season.
