CALDWELL, Idaho - College of Idaho volleyball coach Liz Mendiola has announced the signing of two NCAA Division I transfers to NAIA Letters of Intent for the upcoming 2012 season.

Former UNLV outside hitter Elisa Brochado and former University of Nevada outside hitter Sofia Anxo will join a C of I team coming off their best finish at the NAIA National Championships in program history, placing fifth overall.

“Sofia and Elisa are outstanding additions to our program,” said Mendiola. “Both are skilled, hard working, and very competitive. To have them here and training with us this spring is a benefit that will pay off this fall.”

Brochado, a senior from Belo Horizonte, Brazil, had a solid season for the Mountain West Conference school, recording 85 kills, 79 digs, and 15 blocks in 2011. She began her collegiate career at the College of Southern Idaho, where she was an All-Scenic West Conference and All-Region 18 performer – recording 714 kills, 570 digs, and 83 blocks for the Golden Eagles. Brochado will be reunited with former CSI teammates, Jessica Peacock and Torrey Hulsey, who helped the 2009 team to the NJCAA National Championship – where she was named “Server of the Tournament”.

Anxo, a junior from Reno, Nev., spent two seasons with the Wolfpack – playing in 37 sets as a sophomore, recording six aces. A graduate of Bishop Manogue High, she was a three-time 4A first-team All-State and All-Region selection, helping her team to the 2008 state title.

The Lady Yotes will open the 2012 season in mid-August, hosting the College of Idaho Invitational.
