PRIMM, Nev.—The No. 13 Concordia women’s golf team shaved 15 strokes off its first round score to finish the Grand View Invitational sixth on Tuesday.

The Cavaliers finished sixth within the 14-team tournament field that featured 11 teams ranked in the NAIA Top 25.

Concordia placed sixth in the tournament after shooting 317 as a team in the second round for a two-day total of 649 (332-317). Meanwhile, No. 4 British Columbia (310-297—607) and No. 1 Oklahoma City (317-297—614) finished first and second, respectively, after both shot 297 in the second round, a tournament low for a team.

Behind them, No. 16 Oklahoma Christian (304-316—620), No. 19 Wayland Baptist (316-310—326) and No. 12 CSU-San Marcos (325-315—640) finished third, fourth and fifth, respectively. Elsewhere, No. 10 University of Victoria finished tied for eighth at 659 (338-321), the second straight week that the Concordia women topped the higher-ranked Vikes.

Individually, Sunny Powers led the Cavaliers at the tournament, while every member of the team shaved strokes off their first round scores. Powers shaved five strokes off her first round score to finish tied for 10th at 155 (80-75). Besides her, Sara Molyneux placed 15th overall at 157 (80-77), Holly Speer tied for 32nd at 164 (84-80) and Madison Alamillo tied for 46th at 173 (88-85). Mary-Grace Jenks also competed for Concordia, shaving a team-high six strokes off her first round score to finish tied for 66th at 188 (97-91).

Concordia will next compete at The College of Idaho Invitational on April 9-10. That tournament will resume the CCC title race, which Concordia leads by 77 strokes over The College of Idaho. In addition, Sara Molyneux currently sits tied for the lead in the individual race with The College of Idaho’s Trish Gibbens.
