CCC Women’s Basketball NAIA Tournament First Round Report

LA GRANDE, Ore. – The Cascade Collegiate Conference has three women’s basketball teams in the NAIA Div. 2 National Tournament for the third time ever. The 21st annual tournament begins Wednesday and runs through March 13.

#4 College of Idaho vs. #5 Friends: The No. 16 Lady Yotes are looking for their third first round win, but first since 2001. C of I has made the tournament for the fourth straight season, but are 0-3 in the opening round in the past three years. Friends is competing for its first ever win at the national tournament, as it is 0-3 in the first round all-time.

#3 Ave Maria vs. #6 Eastern Oregon: EOU and Ave Maria meet for the first time ever in their first round matchup. The Gyrenes are playing in their first ever trip to the national tournament. Eastern returns to the tournament for the second time in the past three years after not qualifying last season. EOU is in its sixth national tournament appearance.

#3 Corban vs. #6 Point Park: The No. 10 Warriors make their fifth appearance at the national tournament, first since 2009. Corban is 0-4 in the first round. Point Park is playing in its first ever national tournament. The Pioneers won the American Mideast Conference regular season title, while Corban won the Cascade Conference regular season title.

The Cascade Collegiate Conference sends three teams to the national tournament for the third time in the conference’s history, first since 2009. Live stats and video links available on CascadeConference.org.
