Mountaineers Land Three Auto Marks in Salem

SALEM, Ore. – Eastern Oregon University student-athlete, Kimmy Moore, earned the lone NAIA National Championship automatic-qualifying mark at the Willamette Inviational Saturday.

The senior ran to a 1:03.39 finish in the women’s 400-meter hurdles. Moore finished fourth in her heat. The Noxen, Mont., native hit a Cascade Collegiate Conference Championship qualifying mark in the 100-meter hurdles. She finished with a time of 15.89.

Eastern had 32 conference championship qualifying marks over the two days of the meet. Friday, Brian Bragg and Isaac Updike hit NAIA auto marks, while Kody Coxen had a provisional mark.

Updike finished second in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase. The sophomore ran a time of 9:18.70 to hit the auto-mark of 9:20.00. Coxen hit a provisional national qualifying mark of 9:26.92. It was a fifth place finish for the junior.

Bragg had a third place finish in the 5,000 meters with a time of 14:38.38. It qualified him for the national championships by almost seven seconds. The time places the senior fifth on the EOU all-time list.

Trevor Barrett hit three conference championship qualifying marks in discus, hammer throw, and javelin. Kadie Booth had a pair of CCC qualifying marks in the 100 and 200 meter races. Allison Rodgers had conference qualifying marks in the long jump and triple jump. Travis Simpson qualified in the high jump and triple jump, and Tyler Bruck qualified in the discus and hammer throw.

Other conference championship qualifying marks include Alma Garcilazo in the 1,500, Laura Hansen and Leigh Anne MacCarthy in the 5,000, and Jessianne Heley in the shot put.

On the men’s side, Tyler Watson in the 200 meters, Grant Wilson in the 400 meters, Brian Nelson in the 5,000 meters, Alex Martinez in the 10,000 meters, Asa Miller in the 110-meter hurdles, Chris Wilson in the 400-meter hurdles, Michael Wanta in the steeplechase, Brandon Powell in the high jump, Carsen Hendyx in the discus, and Max Van Fossen and Brian Wickham in the hammer throw.

The Mountaineers send a select group of student-athletes to the Cascade Conference Multi-Event Championships in Oregon City, Thursday and Friday. EOU also competes in the Albertson’s WAR V in Spokane, Wash., Saturday.
