Sara Molyneux earned medalist honors for Concordia
WILDER, Idaho - The College of Idaho made a final round charge, but No. 13 ranked Concordia University women’s golf team held off the host Coyotes to win the 2012 College of Idaho Invitational at River Bend Golf Course.
The No. 18 Lady Yotes set a school record with the low round of the day, carding a 308 – however, the 39-stroke lead by the Cavaliers after Day 1 held strong. Trish Gibbens (+5 221) and Melissa Clausen (+33 249) shot Tuesday's low numbers at two-over 74 – Clausen recording her lowest score in her collegiate career.
The Cavaliers (915) also claimed the medalist honors, as Sara Molyneux (+4 220) for a one-stroke victory over Gibbens and her CU teammate, Sunny Powers (+5 221). Two other Cavs were in the Top-10 – Holly Speer (+11 227) in fourth and Madison Alamillo (+31 247) in ninth.
The C of I (947) also had other three players in the Top-10 – Baylee Borchers (+22 238) in seventh, Jocie Cracroft (+24 240) in eighth, and Clausen in tenth.
Warner Pacific (996) placed third, thanks to a sixth-place finish from Scotti Jo Helmick (+21 237), with Corban (1072) in fourth, led by a 21st-place finish from Morgan McComish (+45 261). North Idaho College (1080) rounded out the Top-5, led by Makeena Schevenius (+39 255) in 14th, with Northwest Christian – which didn’t field a full team, led by a fifth-place effort from Sarah Crofcheck (+17 233).
The five Cascade Conference schools close out the regular season next Monday and Tuesday at the CCC Championships at Diamond Woods Golf Club in Oregon.
