Sora Klopfenstein broke C of I's Steeplechase Record
MONMOUTH, Ore. - School record performances by Sora Klopfenstein and Mike Hurd were among the six NAIA national qualifying marks established by College of Idaho competitors at the John Knight Twiligh, hosted by Western Oregon University.
Klopfenstein hit the NAIA "A" mark in placing fifth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, clocking a time of 11:07.65. Hurd knocked over a second off the 400-meter hurdle record, establishing an NAIA "B" mark with his second-place finish in 54.31.
The C of I had two NAIA "A" qualifiers in the 1,500-meter races, as Dominic Bolin placed fifth with a time of 3:53.95, while Sarah Johnson placed sixth in a time of 4:38.41. Two others hit NAIA "B" cuts - Kayloni Perry in the 1,500 (4:42.22) and Kenna Middleton in the 10,000-meters (38:03.92).
The Lady Yotes saw three other school records fall by the wayside - as Diamond Mitchell lowered the mark in the 100-meters (12.43), placing second in both sprints (clocked 25.77 in the 200-meters). Melinda Fuimaono notched a new school-record in the javelin (112-3), with Jessica Aguilar setting a new record in her collegiate debut, heaving the shot put 37-0 1/2.
The C of I will have a quick turnaround, as the teams will hit the Eastern Oregon Open on their way back to Caldwell tomorrow - competing in the meet in La Grande, Ore., during the afternoon.
