MONROE, Ore. – The 2012 Cascade Collegiate Conference women’s and men’s golf Championships are on Monday and Tuesday at Diamond Woods Golf Course. The 54-hole tournaments feature 36 holes on Monday and 18 holes on Tuesday.

The Concordia women currently stand 109 strokes ahead of The College of Idaho after four tournaments this season. No other team comes close to those two, as Warner Pacific sits 369 strokes behind The College of Idaho in third, while Corban sits 238 strokes back of Warner Pacific in fourth. Northwest Christian, meanwhile, fielded teams for the first two events in the fall, but failed to do so for the last two events in the spring.

Concordia’s Sara Molyneux and C of I's Trish Gibbens will battle for the CCC Player of the Year award. Molyneux leads Gibbens in the Player of the Year chase by a single stroke after 12 rounds of play this season. The two had been tied going into the College of Idaho Invitational, but Molyneux edged Gibbens by a stroke for the individual title at the tournament. Gibbens won the 2011 conference title, with Molyneux taking third. Concordia has won all four of the previous conference championships.

Concordia’s men have won all four of the CCC tournaments so far this season and head into the CCC Championships 87 strokes ahead of Corban in the conference title race. The College of Idaho, meanwhile, sits in third, 37 strokes back from Corban and 124 back from Concordia. After them, Northwest Christian sits 247 strokes back from the Cavs in fourth, while Warner Pacific sits 262 strokes back in fifth.

The Cavs have been able to distance themselves largely thanks to Jesse Heinly and Jed Dalton, who stand 1-2 in the chase for the CCC Player of the Year award, which goes to the golfer with the lowest average score per round in CCC tournaments during the season. Heinly currently leads the chase with an average of 72.25 strokes per round, putting him 18 strokes up on his teammate Dalton. Dalton sits solidly in second though, averaging 73.75 per round, which puts him 14 strokes up on the No. 3 golfer in the conference. Dalton won the 2011 conference title. Concordia has won four straight conference titles.

Diamond Woods Golf Course was built in 1997 and designed by Greg Doyle. The course offers a unique and exciting layout. The front nine is characterized by open holes while the back nine features more tree-lined holes over rolling terrain and surpassing views of the valley and mountains. Water comes into play on seven of our holes. Diamond Woods was voted a top 10 golf getaway by the Oregonian.
