Oregon Tech's Sara Coates
(Klamath Falls, Ore.) Southern Oregon shut-out No. 5 Oregon Tech behind great pitching from Jordyn Kurtz and 5 RBI from Katie Moy to send Oregon Tech to its 3rd straight CCC loss 8-0 in game 1 of a scheduled doubleheader. Game 2 was suspended due to rain in the top of the 2nd inning with SOU leading 3-0; no makeup date was scheduled. Southern Oregon improves to 17-16 overall and 7-10 in conference play. Oregon Tech slips to 30-7 and 13-4 in the CCC.
After a quite 1st inning by both teams in game 1, Southern Oregon erupted for 5-runs in the top of the 2nd inning taking advantage of 3-walks and 3-hits highlighted by a Katie Moy single that scored two.
Moy would add to the lead in the 6th crushing a 3-run homerun to right-center field to put the game away for SOU 8-0.
Jordyn Kurtz was stellar, giving up just 7-hits over the 6 inning mercy rule shortened game while striking out 5 Owls, walking only 1 to improve to 8-7 on the year.
Taylor Schmidt had one of her shortest outings of the year pitching just 2 innings, giving up 5-runs on 4-hits, and walking 3 as she picked up the loss, falling to 17-4 on the season.
Melissa Logan led Oregon Tech offensively going 2 for 2 with a double.
Oregon Tech will head to La Grande, Ore. to play Eastern Oregon (10-17, 6-13 CCC) on Friday, April 20th at 2:00pm. Southern Oregon will travel to Caldwell, Id. to play C of I (28-12, 11-9 CCC) also on Friday at 2:00pm. Tech will then play C of I on Saturday, April 21st at 11:00 am with Southern Oregon playing at Eastern on Saturday.
