Haynie Named National Athlete of the Week
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – For the second straight week, Eastern Oregon University student-athlete, Robbie Haynie, has been named the NAIA National Men’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week.
Haynie, a senior from Nampa, Idaho, became the first NAIA athlete this season to clear seven feet in the high jump. He posted a leap of 7' ½" at the Eastern Oregon Open on April 14 to finish first overall.
He took medalist honors in the long jump with a distance of 22' 9 ¼". He now owns the top pole vault, decathlon, and high jump marks in the NAIA. In a track event, Haynie set a personal-high in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.32.
After being named the conference athlete of the week, Haynie receives the national nod for third time this season, one indoor and one outdoor. He was named national athlete of the week three times in 2011 as well.
Haynie and the Mountaineers return to the track Saturday in Nampa, at the Northwest Nazarene Invitational. A select group of Eastern athletes compete in Eugene, Ore., at the Oregon Relays.
