No. 6 Oregon Tech Sweeps Eastern Oregon

(Medford, Ore.) – Oregon Tech pounded out 23 runs while sweeping a Cascade Conference double header Sunday from Eastern Oregon University winning game 1, 9-3 and game 2, 14-1 (in 5 innings). Oregon Tech improves to 24-4 and 7-1 in CCC play with the win. Eastern Oregon falls to 7-11 and 3-7 in CCC play. The games were moved to US Cellular Field in Medford because of poor field conditions at the Oregon Tech Softball Complex. 

In game 1, Oregon Tech scored 4 runs in the 2nd inning and 4 more runs in the 5th to down the upset minded Mountaineers 9-3.

Oregon Tech catcher Kayde Schaefer had 3-hits, scored 3–runs and had 2 RBI to lead the Tech offense. Amber Knight added 2-hits and 3-RBI with Ashleigh Larson adding 2-hits in the win.

In the circle, Tech was led by Taylor Schmidt who pitched the distance striking out 6, giving up 7-hits and 3-runs to improve to 12-2 on the season.

Eastern Oregon was led by Ashli Hughes, Emily Anderson and Alex Hillmick who each had 2-hits in the loss. Hillmick also picked up the loss on the mound, giving up 11 hits while striking out 4

In game 2, Tech scored 5-runs in the 1st inning, added 2-runs in the 2nd, and scored 7 times in the 4th to win, going away 14-1 in mercy rule 5 inning game.

Ashleigh Larson, Janelle Cromie and Jess Plummer each had 2-hits to lead Oregon Tech. Plummer added her 10th homerun of the season with Amber Knight also going deep for her second homerun of the year.

Melissa Morgan pitched all 5 innings, giving up 3-hits and 1-run while striking-out 3 to improve to 4-1 on the season.

Kayla Anderson pitched 4 innings, giving up 10 hits and 14 runs; only 4 runs were earned as she picked up the loss for Eastern Oregon.

No. 6 Oregon Tech will host No. 20 College of Idaho in Klamath Falls on Monday for the first home games of the 2012 season. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 pm at the Oregon Tech Softball Complex.
