OREGON CITY, Ore.—In its third meet of a busy weekend, the Concordia track & field team saw another school record fall, while another athlete hit an NAIA automatic qualifying mark at the Cougar Open hosted by Clackamas Community College on Saturday.

Ismael Osorio hit the auto mark for the Cavs after he won the discus with a throw of 160-02 (48.83). The throw also set a career best for Osorio by four-and-a-half feet, and moved him to No. 5 all-time in the event at Concordia. In addition, Osorio gives the Cavs their third auto qualifier in the discus, and ranks him No. 14 nationally in the event.

Besides Osorio, Chad Fowler, DeAndre Jackson, Justin Oliveri and Eric Tolento combined for a school record in the 4x100 relay. The foursome ran the distance in 42.42, which topped the record set just a week earlier at the John Knight Twilight Meet by only .02 seconds.

Meanwhile, 10 CU athletes set career bests at the Cougar Open, while four others made season debuts in their respective events.

Three men set career bests in the 200 alone, led by Justin Oliveri, who shaved .27 seconds off his career best, while finishing second in the event in a time of 22.12. Oliveri’s time also increased his hold on the No. 2 spot all-time at Concordia, while moving him just .16 seconds off the top spot. At the same time, Eric Tolento cut .38 seconds off his career best, running the 200 in 22.57 Saturday to move into a tie for No. 6 all-time at Concordia. Finally, DeAndre Jackson also set a career best, finishing the 200 in 22.92 seconds to move into the top 10 all-time in school history.

The 200 also produced two career bests on the women’s side, as Jennifer Roberts and Marshey Brown ran the distance in record times. Brown even won the event with a time of 26.38 on Saturday, moving her to No. 11 all-time at Concordia. Roberts, however, provided perhaps the most impressive improvement of any CU athlete on the day, as she cut 1.5 seconds off her previous career best in the 200 with a time of 26.48.

Other than the 200, Breezy Wentz set a career best in the hammer by more than four feet, while NyEma Sims edged her previous career best in the long jump by just over two inches. Wentz set her career best with a throw of 148-10 (45.36m) to take second in the hammer, while Sims won the long jump with her career-best jump of 16-10 3/4 (5.15m).

Sims’ record just capped a versatile day for her though, as she won the shot, long jump and 400 at the Cougar Open, giving her wins in a spring, jump and throwing event on Saturday.

Jennifer Roberts, meanwhile, set the final career best in the high jump, clearing 4-09 3/4 (1.47m), a quarter of an inch above her previous best.

Finally, Nick Wilson and Brandon Schmuckley each debuted in the 1500 meters, with Wilson running the distance in 4:15.91 and Schmuckley running the distance in 4:15.98.

Meanwhile, nn the women’s side, Brown debuted in the 100 with a time of 12.94, while Kayla Richardson debuted in the 400 with a time of 1:04.46.
