Mike Hurd broke two hurdles records at NNU Open
NAMPA, Idaho - College of Idaho athletes earned six NAIA National Championship qualifying marks, won nine events, and set eight school records this afternoon at the Northwest Nazarene Open.
Andre Archer uncorked a school-record leap of 47-6 1/2 in the triple jump, hitting an NAIA “A” standard in winning the event. Austin Basterrechea won the long jump with a season-best mark of 22-0 1/4.
Teammate Mike Hurd was dominant in the hurdles – tying the school record in winning the 110s (15.15), while breaking the mark with a second-place finish in the 400 (53.56), hitting the NAIA “A” cut. Hurd also placed second in the 100-meters with a time of 11.02.
The men’s 4x800-relay narrowly missed the “A” standard, settling for a “B” cut with their time of 7:45.04.
The Lady Yotes got in the relay act, as the 4x100 team broke the school record, hitting the “B” standard with their time of 48.32. The 4x800 squad ran unopposed – but still met the NAIA “A” mark by four seconds.
Jasmine Sibert had a big day – setting a new school record in the 100-hurdles (15.16), while hitting the NAIA “B” standard in the 400-hurdles (1:04.22). Diamond Mitchell won the 100-meters (12.44), as the Yotes took three of the top four places.
Audrey Youren broke the school record in winning the high jump with a mark of 5-3 1/4, while Jessica Aguilar broke her own shot put record (37-1 1/4). Melinda Fuimaono got in the act, winning the javelin (109-2).
The meet marked the final tune-up for the Coyotes, who next compete in early May at the Cascade Conference Championships in Klamath Falls, Ore.
