PACIFIC TWILIGHT RESULTS

FOREST GROVE –
The Southern Oregon track and field teams closed out the 2012 regular season Saturday at the Pacific Twilight with four event championships and a pair of new automatic national qualifying marks.

Matt Battaglia set a school record in the 800 meter run, finishing first in the event with a time of 1:50.22 that broke Joe Pollard’s 20-year-old SOU record of 1:50.67. His time earned an NAIA “A” Standard and is the fastest time in the NAIA this season.

The men’s 4x400 meter relay team set a new meet and stadium record with a time of 3:15.94. The team of Nick Perrino, Chase Bussing, Brandon Ritchie and Jonz Olander won the event and earned an NAIA automatic qualifier.

Max Perry improved on his own NAIA “A” standard mark in the shot put, posting the fifth-best mark in the NAIA this season and finishing second with a throw of 16.7 meters (54-9 ½).

Three SOU athletes hit NAIA “B” marks as well. Jonz Olander won the 400-meter with a time of 48.33 to hit the “B” standard. Eric Ghelfi hit a provisional qualifying mark in the 5000-meter, finishing second with a time of 14:56.91. Hanna Mason finished fifth in the discus, with a provisional qualifying throw of 42.63 meters (139-10).

Sullivan Stevens gave the Raiders their fourth event title, winning the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.03. The Raiders have next week off before the Cascade Collegiate Conference Championships from May 10-12 in Klamath Falls.
