Owls Have Now Won 11 Straight

(Klamath Falls, Ore.) The Hustlin’ Owls of Oregon Tech (28-4, 11-1 CCC) swept a Cascade Collegiate Conference doubleheader from Concordia University (14-16, 5-5 CCC) Friday afternoon winning game 1, 8-1 and game 2, 5-4. The double header, along with tomorrow’s CCC doubleheader against Northwest Christian University, was moved to Henley High School because of poor field conditions at the Oregon Tech Softball Complex. Oregon Tech has now won 11 straight games and has yet to play on its home field.

In game 1, Oregon Tech was first on the scoreboard after a Taylor Schmidt single; Janelle Cromie hit her 7th homerun of the season, a deep blast to left field to give Tech a 2-0 lead in the 2nd inning.

Oregon Tech added an unearned run in the 3rd making it 3-0 as Shawna Collins led off the inning with a double and then came in to score after a Cavalier error.

Concordia answered in the 4th as Kyndell Andrews hit her 1st of 2-homeruns on the day, a deep blast to right center to make it a 3-1 game.

Tech added a run in the 4th inning and a run in the 5th to take a 5-1 lead. Tech then broke the game wide open in the 6th when Jess Plummer hit her 11th homerun of the season to right field that scored 3 and put the home team up 8-1.

Taylor Schmidt improved her record to 15-2 going the distance striking out 3 on a 6 hitter. Ashley Suter picked up the loss for Concordia as she falls to 6-7 on the season.

In game 2, homeruns would be the story as each team hit 3 long balls.

Ashleigh Larson hit the 1st homerun of the game and her 4th of the season in the bottom of the 1st inning to give Oregon Tech a 1-0 lead.

Concordia would tie the game at 1-1 in the top of the 3rd inning when Sam Genskay hit a big 2 out single to score Mary Lugar who singled to start the inning.

Tech would grab the lead back 3-1 in the bottom of the inning as catcher Kayde Schafer hit her 5th homerun of the season to center field with one runner on base.

Concordia would explode with 3 solo homeruns in the 4th inning to take the lead 4-3. Andrews started the inning with her 7th of the season and 2nd on the day. Then with 1-out Kate Santos hit her 5th of the season to tie the game at 3-3 and that hit would chase Oregon Tech starting pitcher Melissa Logan out of the game. Jordyn Brown then gave Concordia its first lead of the day as she hit her 4th homerun of the season to right field.

Oregon Tech’s Sara Coates hit her 11th homerun of the season with 1 runner on base in the bottom of the 5th inning to give Tech the win 5-4.

Taylor Schmidt picked up her 16th win of the season, pitching 3.2 innings in relief with Concordia starter Jordyn Brown picking up the loss to fall to 4-4.

Both teams return to action tomorrow as No. 6 Oregon Tech will host Northwest Christian (7-22, 3-7 CCC) at Henley High School beginning at 11:00 am on Senior Day as Tech will honor its 4 graduating seniors (Janelle Cromie, Amber Knight, Ashleigh Larson and Kayde Schafer) between games. Concordia will travel to Ashland to play Southern Oregon University in a double header also beginning at 11:00 am.
