Lady Owls Win 13th Straight

(KLAMATH FALLS, ORE.) – Oregon Tech Senior Catcher Kayde Schaefer had a day like no other on Senior Day. Schaefer hit 3-2 run homeruns, went 6-7, and had 7 RBI in the 2-games lifting No. 6 Oregon Tech to a sweep over Cascade Conference foe Northwest Christian University, 10-5 in game 1, and 8-5 in game 2.  Oregon Tech has now won 13 games in row improving its record to 30-4 on the season at 13-1 in CCC play. Northwest Christian slips to 7-24, and 3-9 in CCC play.

In game 1, Tech scored 2-runs in the bottom of the 1st inning off Schaefer’s 1st homerun of the day. 

The Lady Owls then added a run in the 2nd inning on a solo homerun off the bat of Melissa Logan her 1st of the year to give OIT a 3-0 lead.
 
NCU would score 1-run in the 4th inning and then took the lead 4-3 with 3-runs in the 5th inning as Brooke Davis hit her 4th homerun of the season, a 2-run shot to deep left.
 
OIT would answer with 4-runs of its own in the bottom of the 5th. Kayde Schaefer was at it again as she hit her 2nd 2-run homerun to make it a 5-4 game. Tech would add 2 more runs on 2-hits and 2 Beacon errors to lead 7-4.
 
Oregon Tech would add 3 more runs in the 6th inning as Janelle Cromie unleashed a 3-run bomb to right field to give Tech the lead 10-4.
 
NCU scored 1-run in the 7th on a Gabby Stover triple to make it a 10-5 final.
 
Oregon Tech’s Taylor Schmidt picked up the win, pitching the first 5 innings to improve to 17-2 on the season with Melissa Logan picking up the save, pitching the final 2-innings. Jenna Royce picked up the loss for NCU.
 
Oregon Tech’s Shauna Collins had 3-hits in 3 at bats with Schaefer picking up 4-hits in 4 plate appearances to lead the OIT offense.
 
Northwest Christian’s Brooke Davis and Gabby Stover each had 3-hits for the Beacons.
 
In game 2, Oregon Tech took a 5-0 lead, scoring 3-runs in the 2nd inning and 2 more in the 3rd. Melissa Logan powered Tech to the early 3-0 lead hitting her 2nd homerun of the day and 2nd of the season with a 3-run shot to left field. Tech added 2 more runs in the 3rd as Schaefer hit her 3rd 2-run homerun of the day, this time a blast to left center field.
 
Northwest Christian would answer in a big way scoring 4-runs in the top of the 4th inning taking advantage of 3-walks and 3-hits to make it a 5-4 game.
 
Tech then broke the game open, scoring 3-runs on 4-hits in the bottom of the 4th highlight by a Shauna Collins 2-run homerun to make it an 8-4 game.
 
Northwest Christian would threaten again in the top of the 5th but would only score 1-run, leaving the bases loaded on 3-walks and 2-hits.
 
Neither team would threaten over the final 2-innings as Oregon Tech won 8-5.
 
Melissa Logan picked up the win to improve to 6-1 in the circle this year. Oregon Tech’s Taylor Schmidt picked up the save, her 2nd of the season, to complete a great week going 5-0 with a save.
 
Brooke Davis evens her record at 1-1 on the season as she picked up the loss giving up 8-runs (all earned) on 12 hits.
 
Shauna Collins had 3-hits with Jess Plummer, Kayde Schaefer, and Melissa Logan each picking up 2-hit to lead Oregon Tech.
 
Amanda Reiss had 2-hits to lead the Beacons.
 
Oregon Tech returns to action next Saturday, April 14th at Corban in Salem, Ore. Northwest Christian will head home to host College of Idaho and Eastern Oregon next weekend in Eugene.
