Cavs' Brown Earns School's First-Ever National Softball Player of the Week Honor
KANSAS CITY, Mo.—Concordia’s Jordyn Brown has been named NAIA National Softball Player of the Week, the national office announced Tuesday. The honor marks the first time a Concordia softball player has ever been so honored in school history.
Brown earned the prestigious award after batting .667 (10-for-15) in six games last week for the Cavaliers. She had at least two hits in five of the six games, including seven extra-base hits, which led to a 1.400 slugging percentage and eight runs batted in for Brown in the week.
Brown posted several impressive individual games during the week, as well including a 2-for-3 effort in the second game of a road doubleheader against No. 17 Corban. Brown had a double and scored a run in that game, before capping the victory with a game-winning, three-run home run.
Brown’s heroics were not confined to the plate however, as she also pitched complete-games in four of the Cavs’ six contests last week. Brown went 3-1 in those four games, which included back-to-back, complete-game wins in the Cavs’ road sweep of Corban.
The Cavaliers will hope for similar performances this coming weekend, as they face Corban in the semifinals of the CCC Tournament this Friday, May 4 at 12 p.m. If the Cavs win that game, then they’ll advance to the finals against Oregon Tech.
