ISSAQUAH, Wash. - Erin Redwine, Northwest University women’s soccer coach and head coach of the new Issaquah WPSL team will have some familiar faces on her team when they begin play this summer.

Senior defender Stephanie Cummins, junior midfielder Jessica Oliver, senior midfielder Jordyn Wilson, senior midfielder Lindsey Field and sophomore midfielder Shea Samuelsen have all been selected to play for Issaquah. The team conducted several weeks of tryouts to evaluate the players’ skill level and make their final decisions for the roster.

Coach Redwine said, “I am so proud of this group for committing themselves to get better this summer. They will be playing with and against some of "the best of the best" international and collegiate players. No doubt they will improve and come into preseason more fit and confident than ever.”

The Women’s Premier Soccer League is a 60-plus team national pro-am league and is the largest women’s soccer league in the world. The league was formed in 1998 and is sanctioned by the United States Adult Soccer Association (USASA) as an affiliate of the United States Soccer Federation (USSF). The WPSL’s mission is to provide the highest level of soccer in our effort to: bring affordable & quality family entertainment to the community; display positive role models for our youth; while, being a stepping stone for aspiring professional & international-level players.

A great variety of highly skilled players helps comprise the WPSL. WPSL team’s rosters are made up of college, post-college, foreign players and talented high school players every year. Many college programs encourage their players to play in the summer league because they believe it helps them prepare for the upcoming season. These players gain tremendous experience playing alongside other dedicated, competitive players, some of whom are former professional soccer players and others whom are aspiring to become professionals on or off the field.

The WPSL season runs from May 1st to August 6th which is the off-season for the NU Eagles soccer team. The Issaquah team begins play this Friday, May 25 when they host the Eugene Metro FC at Issaquah High School at 7:00 p.m. They return to the pitch on Friday, June 1 at 7:00 p.m., when they meet the Portland Rain FC at Skyline High School. Tickets are available at the gate.
