MARION, Ind. – The Eastern Oregon University track and field teams ended their seasons Saturday at the 2012 NAIA Outdoor National Championships.
The Mountaineers ended the meet with their fifth, sixth, and seventh All-American finishes on the final day of the meet. Alma Garcilazo, Brian Bragg, and Isaac Updike all completed their seasons with top-eight finishes in their respective events.
Temperatures on the Indiana Wesleyan University campus reached 92 degrees Saturday as the Eastern Oregon men finished with 25 team points, placing 11th. The EOU women came in 26th place with 11 team points.
Updike finished fifth in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:13.70. Kody Coxen crossed the line in 9:47.10 in 13th place.
Garcilazo then placed eighth in the women's 800-meter final. The school-record holder in the event ended her EOU career with a 2:13.40 finish.
Bragg also had an eighth place finish. The senior ended the 5,000 meters in 15:14.77.
Robbie Haynie ended his collegiate career in the pole vault Saturday. The senior entered the meet as the top seed, but did not clear his opening height at 16 feet, 6 inches. Haynie suffered an injury to his hand while setting a meet record in the decathlon pole vault Friday. Despite clearing 17 feet, 10.5 inches, he ripped his hand and reinjured it Saturday.
The Oklahoma Baptist women won the national title, while Shorter (Ga.) took the men's team title. Concordia's women placed second, while The College of Idaho came in 10th. Concordia and Southern Oregon placed fourth and sixth on the men's side.
