EUGENE, Ore. – The Northwest Christian University athletic department announced on Monday that Interim Coach Jeff Gaskill has been promoted as the new Director of Golf for the Beacons. Gaskill has been with the NCU golf programs since last fall.
This is the first collegiate head coaching post for Gaskill who has been a private golf instructor since 2005. The Sheldon High alumnus has been a professional golfer since 2003 and is currently the head PGA Professional at Springfield Country Club where he provides individual golf instruction and manages over 50 member events and corporate tournaments each year. Gaskill is a Class “A” PGA member and once had an apprenticeship under famed PGA instructor Al Mundle, a member of the Pacific Northwest PGA Hall of Fame.
Athletic Director Corey Anderson said, “Jeff came in and did a phenomenal job in organizing, communicating and coaching our men’s and women’s golf teams on an interim basis this spring. His position as a PGA professional and as the head Golf Pro at NCU’s home course obviously goes a long way with the ‘professionalism’ of this position. With golf being an ‘off-campus’ sport and Jeff being an ‘off-campus’ coach, this hire makes NCU golf feel as if it is almost ‘on-campus’ due to Jeff’s availability and visibility at the country club while our teams are at the course for practice and play. I look forward to working with Jeff in growing our golf teams in recruiting, spiritual development, and academics, while moving us towards a CCC championship level of play.”
Gaskill has been a PGA member since 2008 and his professional career includes a fourth-place finish in May 2011 at the OPGA Pro-Am at Tokatee Golf Course in Blue River. He has competed in over 12 Pacific Northwest and Oregon PGA tournaments in the past five years.
“I am very grateful and excited for the opportunity to oversee the golf program at Northwest Christian University,” said Gaskill. “Working with the players and the University over the past year has been an absolute joy. We have a fine group of players and I look forward to building on the team’s successes in the years to come.”
Gaskill takes the helm of a golf program that has produced three All-CCC golfers over the past two seasons and one Cascade Collegiate Conference individual champion.
