LEON-GUANOJUATO, Mex. - Northwest University incoming freshman, Tatyana Reveles of Oxnard, Calif., was recently invited to play on a team coached by the Mexican U19 Olympic team coach in a tournament in in Leon-Guanojuato, Mexico on May 20-27.

Tatyana was a member of a soccer team that had played in a tournament called the Mex-Games. This tournament is used as a way for Mexican girls to be noticed by the Mexican Olympic and Mexican National team coaches and scouts. Immediately following her first game, she was approached by the U19 Mexican Olympic team coach. Her team made it to the semifinal but lost a close, 1-0, contest. Following that game the Mexican National team scout spoke with her and asked for contact information.

Reveles was later contacted by the coach and invited to play for the IME (Institute for Mexicans on the Exterior) at the tournament in Leon-Guanojuato. Tatyana applied for and was granted dual citizenship prior to joining the team. The team competed in the tournament and made their way to the semifinals before losing.

Said Reveles about her experience, “Our team had only two practices in before we actually started playing, as opposed to the other teams which had been together for a while.  Some of the teams we played were challenging and fast but we managed to work together and compete.”

Tatyana was a four-time varsity team captain at St. Bonaventure High in Oxnard, Calif., and named first team all-league. Reveles also ran varsity track and earned two varsity letters. Tatyana played for the Eagles Soccer Club and is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. She plans on being a Psychology major at Northwest U. in the fall.
