NU's Redwine and ISC Tied for First
PORTLAND, Ore. – Coach Erin Redwine (Northwest University) and her WPSL Issaquah Soccer Club went 1-0-1 on their important road trip to Oregon over the weekend which put them into a tie for first place in the WPSL’s Northwest Division with the Portland Rain. Both teams have 14 points for the season with Redwine’s team sporting a 4-1-2 record while Portland is at 4-2-2. This is the first year of play for the Issaquah Soccer Club in the Women's Premier Soccer League.
On Friday night, Issaquah rallied from a 1-0 halftime deficit to score three second half goals as they defeated the Portland Rain in the Rose City. The ISC then traveled to Eugene on Saturday and they battled to a 1-1 tie with the Eugene Metro Futbol Club.
Five current and former Northwest U. Eagles are playing for the ISC this summer including recent NU grad, Stephanie Cummins. Cummins, a 2012 NAIA All-American, is starting at center back for Issaquah. Other NU players joining Cummins on the team are: midfielder Jessica Oliver, midfielder Jordyn Wilson, midfielder Lindsey Field and midfielder Shea Samuelsen. The players went through several weeks of vigorous tryouts to be selected for the team.
Said Coach Redwine, “I was very proud of the team’s performance Friday night in the key game against Portland. We reorganized at half time being down 0-1, the team came together and made a phenomenal come back scoring three excellent goals in the second half. We battled Eugene on Sunday, but just weren't sharp enough in the first half. Our possessions improved and we created quality chances in the 2nd half. Stephanie Cummins is doing a great job as our starting center back. This is a fun, quality group of talented players and I am so happy to be coaching them this summer. We are focused on finishing strong in our last three games as our goal is to be that first place team who advances to Regionals in California.”
Issaquah returns home to host the Oregon Rush on Friday, July 6 at Issaquah High School. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m. They wrap up their season with a home and home series with the Emerald City FC as they travel to play them in Seattle on July 11 and host them in the season finale on Saturday, July 14 at Issaquah High School at 7 p.m.
