LA MIRADA, Calif. -- The Southern Oregon volleyball team suffered a pair of three-set defeats Thursday, falling to No. 24 Westmont 18-25, 22-25 and 12-25 to No. 24 Westmont in the afternoon match and falling to The Master's 19-25, 11-25 and 23-25 in the evening match at the Biola Invitational.

The losses drop the Raiders' record to 3-4 overall going into tomorrow's second day at the Biola tournament. Tomorrow will be an even tougher test for SOU as the Raiders will face No. 2 Concordia (Calif.) at 10:30 a.m. and No. 10 Vanguard at 2:30 p.m.

The Master's def. SOU, 3-0 (25-19, 25-11, 25-23)

Box Score

Southern Oregon hit only .099 in the match, while The Master's College tallied an attack percentage of .396. Sam Dougherty led the way with 10 kills for the Mustangs, while Haley Kasler finished with a team-high seven for SOU.

The Master's scored nine of the first 12 points in the opening set and led the entire way en route to the 25-19 victory. The second set featured an even more dominant performance by the Mustangs, as they opened the set on a 14-3 run and closed out a 25-11 win.

The final set saw SOU overcome a five-point deficit with a 6-1 run to tie it up at 22-22 before the Master's closed out the night with a 3-1 stretch to claim the match victory.

No. 24 Westmont def. SOU, 3-0 (25-18, 25-22, 25-12)

Box Score

Westmont limited Southern Oregon to a .118 attack percentage and a total of 25 kills in the sweep, while the Warriors finished with a .288 attack percentage and 44 kills. While Madison Serrano finished with a match-high 13 kills and Heidi Thompson added 10 for Westmont, no Raider finished with more than five kills in the match.

Southern Oregon hung close early in the first set, even taking a 10-8 lead before Westmont scored seven straight points to pull ahead by five. The Raiders tallied four straight points later in the set to pull within four at 21-17 on back-to-back SOU blocks, but Westmont called timeout and scored four of the next five points to clinch the set.

The second set saw SOU battle back from three different four-point deficits to tie it up at 19-19. Westmont responded with a four-point run, but consecutive blocks helped the Raiders score the next three points to make it 23-22 before the Warriors picked up the last two to earn the 25-22 win. An 11-point Westmont run in the third set helped clinch the match sweep for the Warriors.
