ASHLAND –
Southern Oregon closed out the 2012 nonconference schedule with a sweep of William Jessup, defeating the Warriors 25-11, 25-21 and 25-10 Friday afternoon at Ashland High School.

The Raiders improve to 4-6 overall with the win, while William Jessup falls to 0-9. Southern Oregon returns to action Tuesday night, when the Raiders host Oregon Tech in the Cascade Collegiate Conference opener back at Bob Riehm Arena. Tuesday’s match will feature the unveiling of the newly designed and renovated gym floor, done as a result of a corporate partnership with Rogue Federal Credit Union.

A special presentation featuring SOU administrators and Rogue Federal Credit Union leaders will take place at intermission. All Rogue Federal Credit Union members will receive free admission to the match.

Three Raiders tied for the team lead in kills, as Mona Goudarzian, Natalie Scheller and Haley Kasler each finished with seven. Angela Spieker and Caryn Westrick added 18 assists apiece, and Renee Yomtob tallied 15 digs.

Southern Oregon hit .289 for the match while limiting William Jessup to a .021 attack percentage. The Raiders used a five point run early in the first set to pull ahead 7-3, and they never looked back as they pulled away to the 25-11 set victory.

The second followed a similar narrative early, as WJU grabbed a brief 4-3 lead before SOU used a 7-2 run to pull ahead by four. The Warriors eventually pulled back within two at 20-18 after back-to-back SOU attack errors, but the Raiders closed out the four-point set victory on a kill by Scheller. Southern Oregon dominated the third set, scoring 17 of the first 22 points and closing out the sweep with a 25-10 win.
