Concordia Continues Winning Streak Against Corban

SALEM, Ore. – Senior Chandra Teague registered her third double-double of the season with a match-high 13 kills and a team-high 16 digs, as Corban's women's volleyball team fell to conference rival Concordia in three sets (23-25, 19-25, 21-25) Saturday inside the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center.
With tonight's result, Corban falls to 2-6 overall and 0-2 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play. Meanwhile, Concordia pushed its current winning streak to three matches improving to 3-4 overall and 2-0 in CCC matches.
Along with Teague’s offensive output, junior Olivia Shropshire, sophomore Claire Bailey, and sophomore Courtney Mulford contributed eight, seven and six kills, respectively. Sophomore setter Katherine Salness tallied a team-high 32 assists, while freshman libero Kiersten Hilt added 14 digs to aid the Corban defense. At the net, junior Jenny Harman and Bailey tallied a team-high two blocks each.
In the first set, the Warriors won eight of the first ten points to take an early six-point lead (8-2) with Shropshire contributing two early kills. Concordia responded with an 8-2 run of their own to knot the score at 10-10. The Cavaliers then stretched their lead to three points (16-13) before Corban strung together a 10-4 run to take a 23-20 advantage. Following a Concordia timeout, the Cavaliers surged ahead with a 5-0 run to capture the two-point win (25-23) in come-from-behind fashion.
Set #2 saw Concordia pull away after an early 6-6 tie, as the Cavaliers used an 8-0 run that resulted in a 14-6 advantage before closing out the game with a six-point victory (25-19).
The final set was played evenly with Corban forging a 10-9 lead in the early going. Concordia took the next three points to move ahead by two (12-10) before the Warriors clawed back to regain a one-point lead at 18-17. The Cavaliers closed the door on the match with a final 8-3 run to win the set and earn the sweep.
Concordia’s attack was anchored by Brianna Hogan’s team-high 12 kills, while Lindsay Mangan set up a match-high 34 assists to go with a match-high 17 digs by Leslie Hanks. At the net, Concordia got a match-high three blocks from Hogan.
Corban will return to action on Friday, September 7th, against the Mountaineers of Eastern Oregon beginning at 7:00 p.m. in La Grande.
