KIRKLAND, Wash. – Pacific Lutheran’s Jamie Hoffman scored in the 64th minute, broke a scoreless tie and gave the Lutes the 1-0 win over Northwest University this afternoon in a non-conference contest.

Hoffman’s goal came from the left side (63:48), 10 yards out as she rocketed a shot that hit the opposite post and came off the head of Northwest goalkeeper.

The Eagles dominated possession in the first half as they outshot the Lutes, 12-6, forcing PLU goalie, Marisa Gonzalez to make 4 saves. NU (1-6-1) had the edge in shots on goal with 7, but each one was saved by Gonzalez who earned the shutout. NU goalkeeper, Patty Hughes had 6 saves for the game. Northwest out shot PLU 18-12 and had 4 corners to the Lutes’ one. This preseason is about growth, fitness and preparation.

"it was a tough loss to take," commented Erin Redwine, NU head coach. "I wish we could have finished, but I'm happy with our defending and ball possession, it was much improved from our last game against Central Washington

Northwest U. will take a break until Sept. 21 when they host Westminster (Utah) on the NU Athletic Field at 3:00 p.m. Pacific Lutheran will remain on the road and will take on UPS (Puget Sound) on Sept. 13 in Tacoma.
