CCC Volleyball Teams Shift in NAIA Weekly Poll
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Three Cascade Conferene teams had shifts in their standins this week in the NAIA national poll. The College of Idaho fell from No. 13 to No. 15. Eastern Oregon, which debuted in the poll at No. 19 last week fell into the receiving votes category after dropping a five set match to Northwest Christian. Southern Oregon captured 47 votes compared to 7 last week to inch closer to the top 25.
For the second-consecutive week, the top four teams remain the same in the Tachikara-NAIA Volleyball Coaches' Top 25 poll, the national office announced Tuesday. Texas at Brownsville remains the top ranked team as the Scorpions captured 22 of the 23 first-place votes and tallied 653 points.
Remaining at the No. 2 position and receiving one first-place vote is Concordia (Calif.). Columbia (Mo.) stays at No. 3 as the Cougars tallied 610 points. Biola (Calif.) holds at No. 4 after receiving 591 points, while Lee (Tenn.) rounds out the top 5 with 547 points.
Three teams that were not ranked in the week one poll, No. 9 Hastings (Neb.), No. 22 Viterbo (Wis.) and No. 25 Georgetown (Ky.), all made the jump this week. Making the biggest splash was Hastings as it moved to No. 9 after going 4-0 last week, with victories over then-No. 11 Doane (Neb.) and then-No. 12 Oklahoma Baptist. The Brancos improved from receiving votes in the previous poll.
Three programs, Eastern Oregon (No. 19), Cornerstone (Mich.) (No.21) and Freed-Hardeman (No. 25), all fell out of this week's poll.
Sixteen conferences/independents/unaffiliated groups are represented throughout the Top 25, led by the Golden State Athletic Conference (GSAC) with four ranked teams. Representing the GSAC are Concordia, Biola, No. 8 Westmont (Calif.) and The Master's (Calif.)
The poll was voted upon by a panel of head coaches representing each of the conferences and Independents. The third regular-season poll will be announced on Sept. 18.
