EUGENE, Ore. – Northwest Christian collected twelve service aces on Friday night as they cruised to a three-set victory over Evergreen State, 25-9, 25-19, 25-21). Dana McGowan led the way with five aces in the win.
NCU started the night strong, hitting .417 as they rolled to a 16-point win. The Beacons had seven aces in the first set alone, including four from McGowan and two from Cori Wallace.
Evergreen State fought back tough in the second and third sets but weren’t able to overcome the strong service and defense of the NCU, who also collected nine blocks in the match.
The Beacons (7-6, 2-3 CCC) was led by Tami Brown who hit .450. With twelve kills she was the only player in double-figures while also contributing a match-high four blocks. Taylor Richardson and Maren Mansfield added five kills each. For Mansfield, the five kills brought to within three of becoming just the third NCU player to ever cross the 500 kill plateau for her career. She sits on 497 kills heading into Saturday night.
Evergreen (0-14, 0-5) was led by Brittany Covert who collected six kills, hitting .286, adding three serbice aces. Sonja Arrasi-Nash led all players with nine digs.
Northwest Christian will be back in action on Saturday night, taking on Northwest University (8-5, 2-2 CCC) at 7:00 pm.
