Northwest extended its conference-high winning streak to six matches Friday with a three-set sweep of Corban in Oregon's Capital City.

SALEM, Ore. – In its final match of the week, Corban's women's volleyball team nearly grabbed the opening set before falling to the visiting Eagles of Northwest in three sets (27-29, 20-25, 15-20) Friday inside the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center.
Senior Chandra Teague would lead the Warriors with nine kills and a match-high 16 digs, while juniors Olivia Shropshire and Jenny Harman added seven and six kills, respectively. Sophomore setter Katherine Salness would guide Corban's offense with a team-high 27 assists, while also adding 15 digs defensively to go along with a 13-dig performance by freshman libero Kiersten Hilt. At the net, Harman and sophomore Claire Bailey registered a team-best three blocks each.
The opening set was a see-saw battle throughout, as Northwest built a six-point lead late (23-17) before Corban used a 7-0 run fueled by the serving of junior Alex Matulewicz to grab a one-point lead (24-23) on a Shropshire kill. Both teams would trade set points, as Northwest fought back to earn a slim one-point lead (26-25) before Corban tied the set for the eighth time at 26-all on another kill by Shropshire. After Corban earned its third and final set point at 27-26, Northwest's Breanne Covey registered three straight kills to close out the set leading the Eagles to a two-point victory (29-27).
Set #2 would see Corban quickly jump out to a three-point lead (12-9) on a Harman kill before Northwest used 13-5 run that resulted in a seven-point lead (24-17) on a Warrior hitting error. Corban would attempt to come back with a mini 3-0 run, but the visiting Eagles' lead was too much for the Warriors to overcome as Northwest cruised to a five-point victory (25-20).
The third and final set would belong to Northwest from the beginning, as the visiting Eagles built a insurmountable 12-point cushion (21-9) on a combo block by Alivia Johnson and Olivia Vandlac. Despite outscoring Northwest over the final 10 combined points (6-4), Corban watched as the visiting Eagles took the match in three sets with a final score of 25-15 in Set #3.
Northwest was led offensively by Arika Zwack with a match-high 10 kills, while Covey and Vandlac added nine and seven kills, respectively. Ashton Arbuthnot handed out a match-high 28 assists for Northwest, while Covey led a quartet of Eagles with 15 digs defensively. At the net, Sarah Stoker registered a match-high five blocks to go along with a seven ace showing by Arbuthnot.
With tonight's result, Corban falls to 3-9 overall and 1-5 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play. Meanwhile, Northwest pushes its winning streak to six matches improving to 8-5 overall and 2-2 in CCC action. The Warriors will return to action on Friday, September 21st, when they host conference rival Northwest Christian at 7:00 p.m. inside the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center in Salem.
