SPRINGFIELD, Ore. - Concordia University and The College of Idaho are in a dog fight at the top of the standings with the Cavaliers emerging with a three-stroke lead after the first two rounds of the Northwest Christian University Invitational.

The Yotes held an eleven-shot lead after the first round on the 5783-yard Par 72 Springfield Country Club course, but Concordia roared back with a 329 in the afternoon round to finish with a two-round 668. The College of Idaho currently has a 671.

Trish Gibbens used a tournament-low 74 in the second round for a 154 total to power the College of Idaho, grabbing a four-stroke lead over Concordia’s Sunny Powers (80-78=158). Scotti Jo Helmick of Warner Pacific sits in third place (80-79=159), followed by CI’s Katherine Reed (77-85=162) and Concordia’s Jennifer Gibbons (80-84=164).

Northwest Christian University sits comfortably in third place on their home course, shooting a 694 over the two rounds to grab a 28-stroke lead over fourth-place Warner Pacific. The Beacons set a school record in the afternoon with a 335, breaking a two-year old mark by three strokes.

The third and final round of the tournament will play out on Tuesday morning.
