KIRKLAND, Wash. – Three Northwest University goals in the first half sealed the 4-1 win over Northwest Christian (Ore.) in Cascade Conference play this afternoon giving the Eagles their third straight league win.

Northwest U. scored just 2:45 into the first half as Alex Taylor (Issaquah, Wash.) scored from 20 yards out from the right side after taking teammate Mackenzie Samuelsen’s (Woodinville, Wash.) pass. Do-Hee Kim (Seoul, S. Korea) took Taylor Young’s (Bellevue, Wash.) cross and scored his goal from 8 yards out in the middle and Mackenzie Samuelsen completed the first half scoring as he drilled his free kick past the NCU goalkeeper, Dusty Stephens, from 20 yards out just left of center.

Chris Longi broke the scoring drought for Northwest Christian with his unobstructed blast (56:02) from 25 yards out on the left side that sailed past NU goalie, Joe Galbraith (White Fish, Mont.). Northwest’s Jonathan Ellis (Kirkland, Wash.) finished the scoring for Northwest as he scored on a deflection off the NCU keeper from 6 yards out in front at the 63:43 mark. His score came after Alex Taylor had right footed a 8 yard blast which came off Stephens’ chest which Ellis put his foot on for the score.

Northwest U. (5-1-1, 3-0 CCC) outshot NCU 20-9 and corners were even at 6 per team. Northwest Christian goalkeeper Stephens had 9 saves before leaving the game in the 71st minute. NCU managed only two shots on goal for the contest.

“I asked the guys to come out strong and get a quick goal and we did that in the third minute of the game,” stated NU head coach, Gary McIntosh. “We dropped off after that and struggled to play our game. It is nice anytime you get a win and score four goals in a game, especially when four different guys score. We have two days to sharpen up a few areas of play before Saturday’s game with Concordia.”

NU will now travel to Portland on Sat., Sept. 22 to play Concordia at 6 p.m. in a battle for first place. Both teams are sporting 3-0 conference marks with Evergreen right behind them with a 2-0 record.
