KIRKLAND, Wash. – Northwest University suffered the disappointment of two own goals as they were defeated by Westminster, 2-0, this afternoon in a non-conference contest.

The first goal came at the 48:50 mark when Westminster’s Margo Hickman drove a 25 yarder to the NU goal mouth and it was inadvertently headed in on an attempt to clear the ball. Northwest had dominated the possession early and outshot the Griffins 9-3 in the first half. Jordyn Wilson just missed a goal in the 30th minute as her 4 yarder shot from the right side was saved by WC’s goalkeeper, Dayna Winter-Nolte.

The Griffins got the game clincher in the 86th minute when Jamie Wilson’s corner kicked slipped out of  Northwest’s goalie, Mariah O’Brien’s hands and the ball got pushed into the goal after it looked like a save.

Northwest U. (1-7-1) outshot the Griffins (8-1) from Utah 17-14 and had 5 corner kicks to Westminster’s two. Mariah O’Brien had 7 saves for  Northwest. Westminster led in the foul category with 20 to Northwest’s 9.

“We played our best soccer of the season today,” said NU coach Erin Redwine, “it’s just unfortunate they (Westminster) wins on our own goals.”

Northwest will begin CCC play on Sept. 28 as they travel to Klamath Falls for there opener against Oregon Tech at 1:00 p.m.
