CALDWELL, Idaho - A pair of goals by Brittany Lacey in the first six minutes of the second half helped The College of Idaho win their first game of 2012, defeating Eastern Oregon, 4-1, in the final game of the Coyote Classic at Simplot Stadium.
Box Score
Leading 1-0, the Yotes (1-3-1) added to the margin just three minutes into the second half, as Sarah Hicks played a cross from the end line that got through Eastern keeper Kailey Moss, finding the foot of Lacey at the top of the six-yard box for a tap-in goal. Three minutes later, Lacey did it herself, collecting a ball 25-yards out, touching the ball in the air, and volleying a shot into the upper right corner for a 3-0 lead.
The C of I extended the lead to 4-0 in the 69th minute, as Hicks played a great through-ball down the right side to Bri Blair, who one-timed a shot into the right corner of the net - allowing the Yotes to empty their bench for the final 20 minutes.
The two teams played a fairly even first half, but the Coyotes got a late goal before halftime to gain momentum, as McKenzie Anderson took a cross from Lacey with just over a minute left in the period, and chipped a shot over the head of Moss for her first collegiate goal.
The Mountaineers (0-7) had their chances, holding an 13-11 edge in total shots and collecting eight corner kicks in the match, but managed just a Kelli Jones goal in the 82nd minute off a Claire Posedas assist.
The Lady Yotes return to action next weekend with a Friday match at Northwest Christian and a Saturday match at Corban.
