NEWBERG, Ore. - Two first half goals, one by Josh Peters and the second by Carlos Portillo would give the Northwest University Eagles a shutout victory over the George Fox Bruins this afternoon at the Austin Sports Complex.

NU's first score came in the 15th minute of the half as Peters drilled one from 20 yards out. The goal came after a steal by teammate Alex Taylor who also earned the assist on the score.

The Eagles got a second goal at the 28:37 mark on a nice cross from MacKenzie Samuelsen as he placed the ball from right to the left side for Portillo to put it into the net. Do-Hee Kim also had an assist on the play.

Northwest's (2-0-1) Joe Galbraith earns the shutout with two saves, but it was the Eagle defense that came up big limiting the Bruins to just four shots for the game and just one in the second half. Luis Angel Del-Rio had four saves for George Fox (0-1-1) in goal playing the first 45 minutes of the match. Davis Elliott replaced Del-Rio in the second half but went without a save.

"On an extremely hot day the guys came out with the intention to get this win and a shut out from the beginning," stated Gary McIntosh, NU head coach. "We played with a lot of energy and poise throughout the game. The team is learning how to work together and it showed today with two quality goals. Our team defense was excellent and Joe (Galbraith) was excellent in goal. This was a good win for us this early in the season."
