BOX SCORE

TACOMA, Wash. – Junior Audrey Sullivan scored her fifth goal in the past three games, but it was not enough as Corban's women's soccer team dropped its first game of the 2012 season to the Loggers of Puget Sound, 3-1, Monday at Baker Stadium.

With today's result, Corban falls to 3-1-0 overall and Puget Sound opens its 2012 season at 1-0-0.

For the first time all season, Corban was outplayed on all sides of the ball with Puget Sound registering more shots (19-to-8), shots on goal (8-to-3), and corner kicks (8-to-1) that included a 12-to-3 advantage in total shots in the opening half of play.

Puget Sound would build an early lead scoring the game's first three goals within the opening 24 minutes, as Amalia Acorda-Fey scored her first of two goals in the sixth minute unassisted before Theresa Henle notched the game-winner off an assist from Liz Blonden just under three minutes later for a 2-0 Logger lead at the 8:39 mark. Acorda-Fey would score the host Loggers' final goal in the 24th minute when she teamed with Rosie Jay for her second goal of the afternoon that capped the scoring for Puget Sound on the day.

Corban's sophomore goalkeeper Kaitlyn Mendenhall would allow all three goals in the opening half, as she registered a game-high three saves before giving way to junior net-minder Alexis Beattie for the final 45 minutes when she registered a single save for the Warriors.

In the 80th minute, Sullivan would team with senior Emily Tsugawa on Corban's lone goal of the game via a through ball up the middle. After receiving the pass, Sullivan would finish the scoring play with a sliding shot on goal that would elude UPS's goal keeper before finding the back of the net for her team-leading fifth goal of the year.

Puget Sound would get a pair of saves from Casey Thayer in goal, while Acorda-Fey and Henle led all players with five shots each.

Corban will return to action this weekend at the Red Lion Cascade/Frontier Challenge beginning on Friday, September 7th, against Carroll College at 5:00 p.m. at Dwight Merkel Sports Complex in Spokane, Washington.
