Recker (#23) and the Cavalier defense led Concordia to wins over No. 3 Lindsey Wilson and No. 12 Hastings over the weekend. Despite the stiff competition though, Recker and the defense allowed their opponents just four shots combined, only one of which was on goal.
CU's Recker Named NAIA National Defensive Player of the Week
KANSAS CITY, Mo.—Senior defender Indigo Recker for the No. 2 Concordia women’s soccer team has been named the NAIA National Defensive Player of the Week, the national office announced Tuesday.
Recker earned the national honor after anchoring a Cavalier defense that shutout two top 15 teams in the Cavs’ two matches last weekend.
Recker and the Cavs began their play last weekend with a 2-0 win over No. 12 Hastings on Friday. Recker and the Cavalier defense did not allow the Broncos a shot on goal in that match and gave up only three shots overall.
However, the Cavalier defense followed that with an even more impressive performance against No. 3 Lindsey Wilson on Sunday. Recker and the defense allowed just one shot against them in the match, as they the Cavaliers to their second-straight 2-0 win over a ranked opponent.
Between the two matches, Recker and the rest of the Cavalier defense allowed just four shots against them over the weekend, only one of which was on goal. In addition, the Cavaliers gave up only two corners between the two matches.
Overall this season, the Cavalier defense has allowed just 3.75 shots per game and only 1.5 shots on goal per game.
Recker and the CU women return to action this weekend against another ranked opponent in No. 18 Concordia-Irvine. Kickoff for that match will be at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 7.
