Corban-Trinity Lutheran Battle to 1-1 Draw After Two Overtime Periods
BOX SCORE
LYNNWOOD, Wash. – Sophomore Josh Hamilton scored the Warriors' lone goal, as Corban University's men's soccer team battled non-conference opponent Trinity Lutheran to a 1-1 tie in double overtime Tuesday at Lynnwood High School.
With today's result, Corban moves to 1-0-1 overall and Trinity Lutheran pushes its overall record to 4-1-1.
In a rematch of the season-opener for Corban, the Warriors were overpowered offensively with Trinity Lutheran recording 12 more shots (19-to-7) despite the visiting team earning eight more corner kicks (8-to-0) than the host Eagles. Each team would get four shots on goal with both teams watching one of their shots find the back of the net.
Corban would take the lead in the first half, when Hamilton teamed with freshman Kellen Luey for the opening score of the game. Luey would begin the play with a crossing pass behind Trinity Lutheran's defense leaving Hamilton one-on-one with the Eagles' goalkeeper. Wasting little time, Hamilton would direct a shot to the left of a diving TLC net-minder for his first goal of the season and a 1-0 Corban lead at the 40-minute mark.
The visiting Warriors would hold the lead until the game's final 10 minutes when Trinity Lutheran got the equalizer on a slotted ball from Antonio Ramos to Armend Makolli, as Makolli unleashed a shot off the left post and into the net tying the game (1-1) at the 80-minute mark.
Neither team would score again in regulation forcing overtime. In the first overtime, each team would register a shot without any result therefore sending the game into a second and final extra frame. In the second overtime, Corban would register a shot but could not find the back of the net allowing the game to end in a 1-1 draw.
Sophomore net-minder Steven Mason would stand between the pipes for the entire game registering a game-high tying three saves for Corban, while Trinity Lutheran's Daniel Nadeau also tallied three saves between the pipes for the Eagles.
Corban will return to action this weekend at the Whitworth Classic beginning on Friday, September 7th, against tournament-host and NCAA Division III member Whitworth with kick off scheduled for 3:00 p.m. in Spokane, Washington.
