SPOKANE, Wash. – The University of Great Falls women’s soccer team took a 3-2 victory away from Eastern Oregon University at the Red Lion Cascade/Frontier Conference Challenge Friday.

The Argos (2-2-0) beat EOU with a late goal for the second time in this young season. UGF scored three goals in final 25 minutes, including the game-winner in the last minute, to beat the Mountaineers. Great Falls knocked off Eastern in the season-opener, 2-1, with the winning goal coming in overtime.

Eastern Oregon’s Courtney Randall scored both the goals for the Mountaineers. The first goal came in the 38th minute as Haley Hill and Mauriana Gonzalez combined for the assist on a cross in front of the net that Randall finished.

After EOU had a 1-0 halftime advantage, Randall struck again in the 63rd minute. Gonzalez played a ball over the defense and Randall beat the Argos’ goalkeeper in a one-on-one situation.

Two minutes later, Katelyn Swart scored off of a Lauren Ozdowski corner kick. Swart then found Mayra Castillo in the 79th minute with a pass over the Mountaineer defense, Castillo then chipped the shot over EOU goalkeeper, Kailey Moss.

After scoring both UGF goals in the first meeting, Ashley Todd played the hero role again, scoring the winning goal at the 89:06 mark of the game. Quinn Wilson played a through ball to Todd, who beat Moss in a one-on-one.

Randall and Todd both took three shots, placing two on goal, for their teams. Nicole Donis also had two shots on goal for Great Falls. Moss made three saves for the Mountaineers, while the Argos’ Jocelyn Morris had four saves.

The Mountaineers (0-4-0) outshot UGF, 16-8. Both teams put six shots on target. EOU took 11 shots in the second half, while Great Falls scored three goals on five of its second half shots.

The Argos have won the past two meetings between the schools and the all-time series is now 4-2 in favor of Eastern. The Mountaineers have won once in the last 15 road contests. The lone victory was a 6-2 win at Great Falls last season. EOU ended its 306-minute scoring drought in Friday’s loss.

Eastern Oregon returns to the Dwight Merkel Sports Complex for a 7:30 p.m. meeting against No. 23 Carroll College Saturday at the Red Lion Cascade/Frontier Conference Challenge. Live stats will be available on EOUSports.com.
