Mountaineers Hold Walla Walla Under Double Digits in First Half

La Grande, Ore. – The Eastern Oregon women’s basketball team defeated Walla Walla University in a non-conference match up, 84-39.
 
Maloree Moss led all scorers with 14 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists. Jorie Freeman added a double double with 11 points and 11 rebounds while teammate Jeni Hoffert added 11 points and 3 rebounds. 
 
Nicolette Neel led the Wolves with 11 points and 4 assist, while teammate Dani Carlman added 6 points, 4 assists, and 2 rebounds.
 
The Mountaineers kept the Wolves under double digits for the entire first half. Furthermore, during an eleven minute stretch EOU held the Wolves scoreless.  Midway through the half, the Mountaineers held a 21-5 lead and eventually would take a 37-9 lead into halftime.
 
In the first half EOU shot 37% (16-of-43) from the field and 20% (2-of-10) from behind the arc. WWU shot 14% (4-of-28) from the field and 8.3% (1-of-12) from behind the three point line.
 
In the second half WWU wouldn’t  reach double digits until the 17:10 mark, from a free throw by Lauren Pernu.  With just under 10 minutes to play the Mountaineers held a 36 point lead.  Eastern would cruise to a 46 point victory, 84-39
 
Eastern finished the game shooting 44% (35-of-75) from the field and 36% (4-of-17) from downtown while WWU shot 25% (14-of-56) from the field and just 12% (5-of-20) from behind the three point line.
 
EOU’s bench out scored WWU 40-11 and dominated the points in the paint 52-14.
