Oregon Tech Pulls Away to Earn 64-43 Victory over The Evergreen State College
KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Oregon Tech used a 15-1 second half run and held The Evergreen State College to just 25% shooting in the contest, as the Owls pulled away from the Geoducks to earn a 64-43 victory in Cascade Conference women’s basketball action tonight at Danny Miles Court.
Tech moves to 13-5 overall and 7-2 at the midway point of CCC play. The Geoducks fell to 4-8 on the season and 3-5 in the conference standings.
The Evergreen State College led for the majority of the first half, taking their largest lead, 13-7, off a Danielle Swain free throw. The Owls, however, battled back from the six point deficit, and with 5:59 remaining in the opening period led 18-17 after a Colleen Hunt short jumper.
The Geoducks would score the next five points, regaining the lead 22-18, but a Maria Ramirez layup and ensuing free throw off the foul and the Owls would never trail again. Tech would move up 29-24 at the half.
Tied 34-34 with 16 minutes to play, the Owls went on a 15-1 spurt and never looked back. Back-to-back-to-back triples, two by Nicole Aboumrad and another by Karissa Dixon during the run, gave Tech a 49-35 cushion with 11:33 remaining and the Geoducks never recovered. The Owls continued to pull away winning by a 64-43 score.
Nicole Aboumrad led the Owls with a team-high 14 points, followed by 11 points from Karissa Dixon. Dixon would add 6 rebounds and 3 assists in the win tonight for Tech. Kassi Conditt, playing limited time due to foul trouble, contributed 9 points and grabbed 6 rebounds, while Colleen Hunt and Tess Armstrong added 8 points each. Maria Ramirez had a fine all-around game with 7 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals to help the Owls to the victory.
Jessica Edge netted a game-high 16 points for The Evergreen State College, while Sammi Clark finished with 11 points in the loss. The duo combined to make all of the Geoducks 3 point field goals going 6-for-13 from long range.
