Big First-Half Run Propels SOU to 82-68 Win Over Concordia

 Southern Oregon scored 21 consecutive points to take a 32-10 lead midway through the first half as the Raider women defeated Concordia 82-68 Saturday night at Bob Riehm Arena.

Southern Oregon improves to 16-8 overall and 6-7 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play, while Concordia falls to 8-14 overall and 2-10 in the CCC.

Melissa Sweat posted her second consecutive double-double with 25 points and 11 rebounds and added a game-high five assists for the Raiders. Alexi Smith finished with 18 points and eight rebounds, while Haley Newell tallied 13 points.

Malori Dixon led Concordia with 19 points, with Randi McReynolds’ 15 points and 10 rebounds earning a double-double for the Cavaliers. Kelly Huey added 10 points for the visitors.

Southern Oregon shot an even 50 percent in the game (34-of-68), including 21-of-37 in the first half as the Raiders built a lead of as many as 23 points. Concordia made 32.9 percent of its shots (25-of-76) and never led in the contest.

The first five minutes were close as the teams tied it up on two occasions and the Raiders held an 11-10 lead with 15:19 to play in the opening half. Southern Oregon turned it into a double-digit game over the next seven minutes, scoring 21 straight points before a pair of Dixon free throws finally ended the run. Concordia pulled within 10 points back twice in the second half, but the Raiders never let the Cavaliers any closer as they closed out the 14-point win.
