Strong Second Half Powers EOU Over Northwest

KIRKLAND, Wash. – No. 5 ranked Eastern Oregon’s 46 point second half helped power the Mountaineers to an 89-53 victory over Northwest University tonight in Cascade Conference Play.
 
Leading 43-32 at the half, EOU outscored Northwest 46-21 in the second period for their 22nd win of the season improving to 22-2 overall and remained undefeated in CCC play with a 12-0 mark. Northwest U. fell to 2-17 for the season and 1-11 in conference play.
 
Northwest kept the game close in the first half as they found themselves trailing by seven, 27-20 at the 7:41 mark. Freshman Jordan Asher would hit two straight 3 pointers to cut the EOU lead to one, 27-26 with 6:18 left in the half. Eastern Oregon would then go on an 11-0 run capped off by two free throws by Nicole Redd and she followed that up with a trey from the top of the key on their next possession. Asher would hit another three with 4:08 remaining to make it a 37-30 game, but Redd would answer with two free throws and teammate Korrie Bourn would score on a drive to the basket to increase the Mountie lead to 41-30 with two minutes to go. Kelsi Hurliman’s two free throws would put EOU up by 13, 43-30, with 11 seconds on the clock but Jenna Lewis would score for Northwest to make it a 43-32 game as the half ended.
 
The second half would belong to Eastern Oregon as they would  open the period with a 25-1 scoring run. NU’s Alyssa Dario would hit a 3 pointer with 12:32 remaining to end the EOU scoring outburst. Eastern Oregon would maintain a comfortable margin the remainder of the game enroute to their 22nd win of the season.
 
Junior Domi Mendezona led Northwest (2-17, 1-11 CCC) with 15 points and teammate Alyssa Dario contributed 10 points for the Eagles. NU was held to 23% shooting in the second half, 30% for the game. The Eagles 12 of 33 three point attempts for 36%.
 
Eastern Oregon (22-2, 12-0 CCC) was led by Kelsi Hurliman 20 points on 50% shooting for the night. Brooke Randall added 19 and shot 70% while Korrie Bourn dropped in 18 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for the double-double. Bourn also hit 9 of 12 field goals for 75%. EOU hit 51% of their shots as a team including 52% from beyond the 3 point line. The Mountaineers out rebounded NU 46-30.
 
Northwest U. hosts the College of Idaho tomorrow night while Eastern Oregon takes on Evergreen in Olympia in more CCC play.
