Early Goal Lifts Oregon Tech Past C of I, 1-0
CALDWELL, Idaho - Daisha Acorda flicked home the lone goal of the match in the seventh minute, as Oregon Tech withstood a second half College of Idaho barrage to earn a 1-0 Cascade Conference women's soccer victory at Simplot Stadium.
The Owls (4-6-1, 1-2 CCC) earned a corner kick in the early flurry, with Rebekah Nisbet playing a ball to the left side of the area. A shot by Jackie Gardner was blocked by the Yotes (3-7, 1-2) defense, but the ball found the foot of Riddle, to touched a shot into the right corner of the net for the lead.
C of I had the run of the pitch after the break – recording five shots on goal in the second half alone, but could not break through. A Reilly Coyle 20-yard blast in the 52nd minute from the center of the field missed just high, and late in the contest, a Camas Curran header in the 86th minute was turned away by OIT keeper Rebekah Matteri.
The Yotes held a 17-13 edge in total shots, including a 12-3 margin in the second half, while recording five of the six corner kicks in the match – but Tech hung on for the win.
Saturday, the Coyotes will play host to Southern Oregon at Noon, while OIT makes the trek to Eastern Oregon.
